Break Through The Plateau

As you progress further and further into your workout regimen, you will start to see a diminishing return on your workouts by reaching a plateau. With constant workouts, your body eventually cannot keep up with the amount of intensity you are putting on it.

In turn you will start to notice that there is not as much muscle growth. It is more likely that you will notice you are no longer able to increase the intensity of your workouts. Either you will not be able to increase the amount of weight you lift or you will not be able to do as many reps as you want.

There are two techniques to break through the plateau and depending on your personality, one might be better than the other. Remember that once you peak, it is important to not over train yourself so you can keep progressing forward.

Break Through The Plateau

As hard as this might sound, one way to break through the wall is to rest. Ironically this is actually pretty hard to do, because once you get into a workout mind set, not going to the gym can bother you because you are feeling like you are not doing anything.

During your resting period, you will need to not work out your muscles for seven days. The only exercise you should do is cardio, but even doing cardio can be too much on your body. If you choose to do cardio, only do it for one or two days a week at most.

The other option you can try is to lower the amount of resistance that you have been using and increase the reps. This is good for those that just cannot keep themselves out of the gym. Be very careful though, because if you workout too much, your wall is still going to exist and you will have to end up resting.

When you choose to do more reps, decrease the amount of resistance you used by at least fifty percent. Then do as many reps as you can. This will force your body to build up a streamline muscle so when you return back to a regular workout, you will be able to bust through the wall. Make sure you do these high rep workouts for seven days, then take a day’s rest, and then return back to your normal workouts.

Both of these ways will work. Ideally rest would be safer because you will not run the risk of over training.
