Eating healthy snacks is usually the deal breaker when it comes to meeting your goals. Of course it’s still important to do ab workouts and cardio routines, but without the right diet, it can be the difference in between letting your six pack abs turn heads or just getting a few looks.

I get many emails from people asking about what they should eat. Most of them want to know what healthy snacks they can eat that do not taste horrible. Well luckily for those of you reading this, there are a few snacks that will help you lose belly fat, fill you up, and keep you on track to meet your flat stomach and six pack abs goals.

Fruit

Mandarins, apples, bananas, oranges, and grapes are an amazing way to boost your energy as well as fill you up. Many people have very uneven food pyramids because they do not consistently eat fruit.

The next time you are hungry, go ahead and eat one of your favorite fruits with a glass of water. You will realize that it will hold you over until your next meal of the day. Since it is healthy your body won’t be using the nutrients as a way to store more fat on your body, instead it will be using it for energy!

Almonds and Mixed Nuts

The secret to nuts is that it is one of the healthy snacks that contain unsaturated fat. This type of fat is actually good for you because the anatomical structure is not completely saturated. When it’s not a saturated fat, the fat is easily broken down by your digestive system and used as energy instead of being stored as fat.

Nuts are solid snacks because they help fill you up and are high in vitamin E, magnesium, and fiber (all of which are essential to building a healthier body). The extra bonus is that vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps fight diseases such as asthma and osteoporosis, while at the same time assisting in the prevention of cancer.

Smoothies and Protein Shakes

If you are going for six pack abs or are trying to build muscle then protein shakes are a good way to quickly get nutrients into your system right after a workout. This instant nourishment will encourage better repair of your muscles allowing more consistent results.

The nutrients obtained from a smoothie are fruit, protein, fiber, and dairy. Fruit smoothies can be used as meal supplements or as healthy snacks throughout your day. Since smoothies tend to be thick, your stomach thinks that it is full so you won’t have to eat extra food for a few hours in order to be satisfied. This is a great way to create a flat stomach.

Carrots, broccoli, and any other vegetable that you like to eat with your hands are great healthy snacks. Vegetables provide crucial vitamins, minerals, and fiber that help protect you from chronic diseases. It also helps regulate body chemical levels to help the body perform at optimum efficiency. Lastly, vegetables are rarely fattening. In fact, some vegetables don’t have any fat at all!

Luckily for us everyone has a favorite vegetable. So the next time you are interested in munching on snacks, open your refrigerator, find your favorite vegetable, pick it up, take a bite, and enjoy the healthiness!

Popcorn

The idea of popcorn being in the healthy snacks section tends to throw people because when people think of popcorn, they think of the high amounts of butter and salt put on it at the movie theaters. Believe it or not, as long as you don’t saturate it in butter or salt, it’s a very healthy snack.

Popcorn is low in calories and high in fiber. The best type to eat is all natural air popped popcorn. If you’re going to use stove popcorn, then make sure to use oils with monosaturated fats such as olive oil or canola oil.

CAUTION: When using microwave popcorn, carefully check the nutrition labels for fat and sodium content. Different brands have different serving sizes and promises on the box that might not actually mean what you assume it does.

The Abs Diet Includes Healthy Snacks

Regardless of the type of healthy snacks you choose to eat in your abs diet, it is very important that your main meals of the day are just as healthy as your snacks. For example, if you eat snacks that are good for you, but have a whole pizza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner you are never going to see results.

What you need to do is find a couple of foods for your abs diet that you will like to eat. This way your taste buds can be happy and your body will get the benefits of eating healthy while getting into the routine of consistently burning calories.

Do not get discouraged if you feel like you are going to have to give up your favorite foods. Although you might have to give up some of them, you will be able to adjust most meals to make them healthy enough to eat on a regular basis!
